Improve Your Memory to Improve Your Small Business

I’ve worked with many small business owners who struggle to remember important details like client names, product pricing, and other critical information. If you’re in this situation, don’t worry – there are several simple tricks you can use to improve your memory and keep your bookkeeping in order.

Here are seven of my favorite tips:

1. Use Mnemonic Devices:

Mnemonic devices are memory aids that help you remember complex information by associating it with something simpler. For example, you could use the acronym “ROYGBIV” to remember the colors of the rainbow. Try using mnemonic devices to remember important details in your small business.

2. Visualize Information:

Visualizing information is a powerful way to improve your memory. Try creating mental images of important details like client names, product pricing, and other critical information. This will make it easier for you to recall these details later.

3. Repeat Information Out Loud:

Repeating information out loud is a simple and effective way to improve your memory. Try saying important details like client names and product pricing out loud several times to help commit them to memory. I have been using this one lately and it seems to help.

4. Use Sticky Notes:

Sticky notes are a great way to keep important information visible and accessible. Try using sticky notes to jot down important details like client names and product pricing, and keep them in a visible location. I keep the sticky note industry in business!

5. Practice Active Listening:

Active listening is a critical skill for small business owners. Try practicing active listening when you’re talking with clients or suppliers. This means paying close attention to what they’re saying, asking questions, and taking notes to help you remember important details.

6. Break Information into Chunks:

Breaking complex information into smaller, more manageable chunks can help improve your memory. Try breaking down important details like client names and product pricing into smaller pieces and focusing on one piece at a time.

7. Use Online Tools:

There are many online tools available that can help you remember important details in your bookkeeping. For example, you could use a CRM system to keep track of client names and contact information, or a pricing calculator to help you calculate product pricing.

By using these simple tricks, you can improve your memory and keep your small business as well as your bookkeeping in order. Remember, good bookkeeping is essential for the success of your small business. If you struggle with keeping your bookkeeping up-to-date and in order, we can help you with that!
