Features of QuickBooks Desktop compared to QuickBooks Online

Stacy Kildal provides valuable insights into the differences between QuickBooks Online (QBO) and QuickBooks Desktop (DT). Stacy has been using QBO since 2005 with her clients and in her article, she points out when QBO is better and when DT is better. In some cases there are features that are similar such as being able to download bank transactions – QBO does it automatically each night while DT makes it a manual process.

Another very important point Stacy makes, is that the final decision isn’t just the features of QBO vs DT. The Intuit App Center provides third party software to accomplish tasks that either are not done in the QB software or that are enhanced. And she points out the decision will include the need to determine who needs access, from where will they access the data, and what is their budget.

  1. Can I enter checks, do remote reconciliations, review reports like P and L Statements, Balance sheets, Payables, Receivables, etc., with a tablet app on a tablet like Nexus 7 into Quick-books Online?

    • Dennis,
My understanding is that currently you can only use the mobile app on a Nexus 7 because Intuit has limited what the mobile browser will allow. The mobile app can only be used to create invoices and receive payments. The statement from Intuit says, “We are committed to continually improving the app for small business owners like you. We look forward to pushing more updates in the future that will make the app better.”
